Powerful Daily Practices

It may seem simple but practice using your senses. Throughout your day, just in your basic actions, you can make a conscious effort to explore with your senses. Pay more attention and illuminate your experience. Of course you’re using them all day long, but are you actually paying attention to the sights, smells, tastes, sounds and feelings?

Here are some tips

Smell: Before you drink your coffee, stick your nose in the mug. When you’re about to wash your hair, stop and smell the fragrance of the shampoo.

See: As you walk by those flowers, stop and get a closer view of the perfect pedals. Stop and look up, gaze at the sky.

Hear: Listen to your breath and tune into to it. Drift off and see how many unique sounds you can hear, and identify where they are coming from. Close your eyes and really hear the music.

Touch: Feel the fabric between your hands as you’re putting on your clothes. Go barefoot in the grass or sand.

Taste: Really think about the item you’re eating or drinking and examine it’s flavors.

These small practices really help us become more aware and present. We can become more mindful, appreciative and connected. There are millions of opportunities to tune in throughout your day. Don’t let yourself get in the habit of rushing around and missing these moments. Could you work on these practices?
