Do You Hate Running? Do You Suck At It?

Do you see the WOD, then pick the thing you “hate” the most because you “suck” at it?

First, you must realize that your current perspective isn’t helping you at all.

Second, recognize that you can change HOW you look at things.

Lastly, improve your outlook.

There are millions of ways to view a situation, here are a few ways to fix that “no-good” perspective:

1. Accept that the movement is important to do and good for you

2. Decide that you’re not horrible at it, you just want to be better than you are

3. Be glad it was programmed, so you can work on it

4. Choose to love it and embrace it

Everything is harder when you have negative self-talk and a bad attitude.

Fight like hell to change your mindset.

I could not agree more. I see burpess and think, “Holy shit I am going to die. Bring them on.” And then I die, but I did them and each time I get a little better.

Oof, seriously, I hate burpees, but I won’t be defeated by something so banal.

This is so true. Sled work is our skill for the month, so far, every day i’ve been thinking how much i hate it and suck at it, then yesterday something clicked. I started telling myself while pulling the sled “This is good for me, this will make me a better runner too etc” Great way to fix those nasty thoughts!

I love the comments – You really have to choose to battle those thoughts EVERY SINGLE time you catch yourself saying them. It will continue to get easier, I swear

This made everything ‘click’. I hate running. I’m fat, slow, and can’t keep up. Everything burns when I run and I feel like giving up or throwing up before I even start. However, instead of dreading today’s workout which featured an 800m run, I said to myself, “I’m glad this run is programmed, so that I can work on this skill… and get BETTER.” Keeping this in my mind, I couldn’t let myself down. Even when my run became a jog and jog became a fast walk, I didn’t stop and I powered through. It’s all about perspective. And it’s even better when you have others encouraging you every step of the way.

I used to think I sucked at running until I actually tried it and realized I could do a ten minute mile. YAY!

My attitude? If I hate it, I need it, so let’s do it.

I have epilepsy and it effects my motoric skills, so that i can’t run without falling face first to concrete ๐Ÿ˜€ though i’d love to. Instead i row and walk and use my indoor bike A LOT. What to do, when it’s not about the lack of attitude or know how, but simply motoric skills :/ i have the endurance and all… maybe i’ll just work on my balance and start swimming. ๐Ÿ™‚

All tips are also welcome, how to improve my balance and motoric skills.

I this article is about cherry picking exercises, but since you mentioned running which I hate…and I do mean HATE. I think the Marine Corps just ruined it for me. In any case, as it turns out, running is BAD for you.

[…] The article title that drew my attention was “I Hate Running, I Suck at It,” as I can identify with that title (although I would say I “stink” at it, because I know my mom reads this blog and doesn’t like the word “suck” ) . ย The truth is I hate running and am not very good at it, and when I see a lot of running, I’m immediately dreading it. Of course that’s about the worst mental attitude you can have about it, and Dawn gives four quick pointers to help change your mentality when your weakness shows up in the day’s WOD. You can read her tips on the blog post here. […]
