If you want to be a great athlete, it’s easy to spend a lot of time at the gym. You’re following a specific program and always looking for ways to get just a little stronger and faster. Of course, to perform at the highest level, you’ll have to commit to a strength and conditioning plan, which often means a lot of your time may be spent indoors. But remember, there is an undeniable magic about training outside in new conditions.
You can improve your mental strength and confidence simply by putting yourself in different environments. Plus, being outside can help you feel rejuvenated, invigorated, and grounded. The more comfortable you can be in uncomfortable training situations, the better.
Have you ever trained, or when was the last time you trained
- in the sand?
- in the mountains?
- in a lake or ocean?
- in muddy, dirty or wet conditions?
- in high altitude?
- in an incredibly cold place, or directly in the hot sun?
- outside in the dark before the sun comes up or long after it’s gone down?
*Of course, you gotta be safe and use caution when pushing yourself in any of these situations
In the next month, get yourself out of the gym 1-3 times to try something new.
The athletes who are regularly training in different terrains and conditions will have a mental and physical edge.
Bottom Line: Continue to challenge yourself by looking for new places to train, and trying new to get yourself in uncomfortable, or slightly different environments.
