The best athletes in the world are constantly looking for ways to get better. They watch replays of their performances, they talk with coaches, and they want to learn what they can improve on each day. If you want to be your best (at anything that you do), then, spend time reflecting.
We do not learn from experience…we learn from reflecting on our experience.
The athletes who I work with take time answer reflection questions each week and after any competitions or events. This helps them continue to focus on self-improvement which improves their overall mindset.
If you want to continuously get better, you have to spend time reflecting…regularly
Here are just a few questions you can reflect on and journal about
1. What did I learn from this week (or this experience)?
2. What do I believe that I can do better?
3. How did I respond to setbacks, hurdles and challenges? Would I change anything to be more effective?
4. What worked for me? What do I want to make sure that I continue to do in the future?
If you review these questions and thoughts with a coach, you’ll get even more out of it. It’s important to be vulnerable, honest and open with your reflections. Try it out!
