There are a lot of different types of destructive thinking patterns. These patterns hold people back and keep people from performing their best. If you want to improve, you must be able to recognize these unhealthy thoughts and do everything you can to change them.
The “negative-psychic” thinking pattern is not doing anything to help you.
This happens when you assume that you know what’s going to happen and you assume that it’s going to be bad.
“That coach thinks I suck, I’m going to avoid asking for help”
“The workout is going to have wall balls and I’m going to lose”
“That guy thinks I’m slow, he wouldn’t want me on his team for the next competition”
“I’ll qualify for regionals but then I’ll fuck it up once I’m there.”
- If you find yourself making assumptions about what you think might happen, or what others might think about you and that it’s negative…stop yourself.
- Remind yourself that this thinking pattern is very unhealthy and that it will actually keep you from attaining your goals.
- Remember that you don’t know anything for sure and you must communicate openly and honestly.
- Then, tell yourself something positive about yourself and take action. You’ll never know until you try.
