Next time you are dragging through a WOD or a movement, try changing the way you count.
- Instead of counting up, count down – As you count down your reps, you’ll feel like you’re getting closer to being done
- Instead of counting by ones, count by 2s, 3s or 5s – This may help you feel like you’re taking bigger chunks out of the reps and completing them “faster”
- Try counting in a different language (one that you know obviously) – This could help you switch your focus off of the discomfort
These strategies are simple, yet can make a huge difference in your performance. If you get yourself into a negative place during a WOD, try changing the way you count and see if that helps. Remember, not all mentality WOD posts are applicable to all people in all situations, but try it out!
