For each WOD of the 2013 Open, I will make a few tips and suggest some Mentality WOD Posts that will help you. I want you to perform your best and feel great about how you do. These 5 weeks are a huge physical and mental challenge, and you have to be calm, focused and confident to get the most out of yourself.
For 13.2 you’ll need a clear head and a strong, unwaivering focus. If you get distracted or get caught up missing reps, then valuable time will be wasted. You need to be in your zone and your transitions need to be smooth.
- Make sure your area is clear of extra distractions (extra equipment, dogs, kids, etc.). You may want to limit the amount of other people in the box for this WOD, so that you have enough space and are limiting external distractions. Also, make sure that your equipment is close together and you have practiced your transition between the bar and box.
- When you walk up to the bar, take a centering breath before you grab it and go. Most missed reps or errors will happen when you rush and don’t take the time to get in a good position so that you can go right into a steady rhythm.
- When you are doing the box jumps, your stare should be just in front of, or to the top of the box. When you are doing the presses and deads, find a place to focus your eyes straight ahead. The only time you should QUICKLY GLANCE up should be during transitions (read more about this in the suggested posts below).
- Make sure you read Mentality WOD Posts 12, 30, 31, and 33, which tell you exactly how to stay driven and focused for a WOD like this.
